The Hepworth didn't particularly impress me, exhibition wise. Like this particular piece:
I don't really understand how this constitutes as art, it looks like the arts missing from it in fact. So I read the description, and it didn't really make me understand it any more. But it kind of lead me to the idea of making an art piece that goes alongside a story.
I then moved on to a more traditional exhibition. It was full of traditional paintings, and although they were very well painted I found myself looking at the frames rather than the paintings themselves.
| This was my favourite. I think because its small but still really fancy. |
Looking at these, I came up with the concept of putting something ugly inside something beautiful, and I would like to know if that could work, and in what way you could make it work, if possible. But I'm not sure I could execute it as a final piece.
I found this exhibition really interesting, but I'm not sure how I could use it as part of this project.
I took photographs from lots of angles, because I like how The holes in the sculpture revealed different parts of the exhibition depending on where you stood.
I didn't particularly like this artists work, but I liked how his sketchbooks were all different sizes, and they were all fairly small.
I think it adds something to his work.
I really liked the surroundings of the Hepworth, so I took quite a few photos. I don't think I will use them for this project, but I'm they may come into use for the future.
The final exhibition I visited at the Hepworth was a little bit more controversial than anything I've seen at a gallery before. It was by an artist called Roger Hiorns. Who also had a display on at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, but I couldn't find it.
At first I didn't really appreciate this exhibition, but on reflection I quite like it. It makes the viewer feel a bit awkward and possibly a bit confused, I would like people to react to my work in some way. Maybe not in that way, but any reaction is good. Makes the work memorable.
So from visiting the Hepworth, I've got three ideas that I could possibly use as a starting point for this project:
1. Putting something Ugly inside something Beautiful
2. Using interesting sized/shaped sketchbooks to add to my work
3. Creating something that will evoke a reaction
I could also combine these ideas within my project, as none of them contradict each other.
